Week 20 CSL Semi-Final Playoff Results

Kingston FC 2nd Division Posts Convincing Semi-Final Win over Niagara 5-1; Books ticket to the CSL Championships next Sunday in North York!

October 19, 2014 – In a must win semi-final showdown on Sunday, the league champion Kingston FC Reserves scored early and often to eliminate Niagara United B 5-1 and earn themselves a first-ever berth in the CSL 2nd Division Playoff Championship finals next Sunday in North York. Kingston FC will square off against the SC Waterloo Reserves next Sunday at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York at 1:00 PM. In two regular season games against SC Waterloo, Kingston FC has a hometown draw 2-2 in June and a 3-2 win in September in Waterloo. Our Junior Lads are the current CSL regular season championship team and ride a 17-game undefeated streak into the playoff finals, their only loss by a 1-0 score against York Region Shooters B back on opening day, May 25th.

Scoring for Kingston FC against Niagara United were Corey Faughnan with a pair, Simon Schmitke, Stephane Assengué and 2nd division Golden Boot winner, Mademba Ba. Niagara’s lone gaol came on a penalty shot by Derek Paterson.

Kingston FC 1st Division Eliminated by 89th Minute Goal as Toronto Croatia takes tense CSL showdown 2-1

October 18, 2014 – A goal by Toronto Croatia in the 89th minute of play last night sunk the hopes and dreams of the Kingston FC 1st division team, as they dropped a nailbiter in Mississauga by a 2-1 score. The loss came on a cold and blustery evening and conditions played a role in the outcome, with each team dominating in their respective half with the wind. But the Kingston FC squad faltered late in the game, as Croatia grabbed the momentum following Kingston’s equalizer off the foot of defender Joe Zupo. Zupo was the unanimous choice as WTC Man of the Match in a losing effort for the local Lads. Although it was a wrenching end to an up-and-down season for the 1st Division team, their play over the past six weeks has been formidable, with four wins and a tie against the toughest opposition in the league before bowing Saturday night to a talented Toronto Croatia team.
