Based on the CSL’s tiebreak rules, Kingston FC should soon be crowned CSL regular season champions

Kingston, Ont. Tuesday, October 1st, 2013 – The most recent chapter in Kingston’s pro soccer club’s young history is certainly one to remember. As the CSL’s 1st Division regular season winds to a dramatic halt, Kingston FC has all but officially locked down the league’s coveted top spot in only its second season of operation.

This past weekend, the title race shifted heavily in Kingston FC’s favour. The team’s 5-3 road win over Burlington SC was followed by a 2-2 tie between second- and third-place clubs York Region Shooters and Toronto Croatia on Sunday night. Now, with a six-point lead in the standings, Kingston FC can officially call itself CSL league winners after their final regular season match this Sunday, but possibly as early as Wednesday evening following York Region’s away match against SC Waterloo.

In its second last CSL regular season game, Kingston FC claimed a 5-3 road win over Burlington SC

Burlington, Ont. Sunday, September 29th, 2013 – Kingston FC is three points closer to claiming the CSL title. Today’s 5-3 road victory over Burlington SC guarantees Kingston a top-two finish in the CSL, tightening their grip on first place with only one league game remaining.

At Burlington’s Nelson Field, goals came in bunches for both squads.

Guillaume Surot took charge in the first half with the aid of attacking partner Catalin Lichioiu. In the 39th minute Lichioiu threaded a through-ball, and Surot slotted one low past a helpless Vladimir Vujasinovic in goal for Burlington.

Surot notches the game-winner as Kingston bolsters their first-place position

Kingston, Ont. Sunday, Sept. 22nd, 2013 – Kingston FC took a vital step towards ensuring their first-place position remains intact. The pro soccer team defeated the second-place York Region shooters 2-1 today at the Invista Centre, with goals from Catalin Lichioiu and Guillaume Surot.

The much-anticipated matchup did not disappoint, as the CSL’s top two teams played to an exiciting draw through the first 45 minutes of play. The league’s top two goal-scorers – Surot and York’s Richard West – brought their ‘A’ games off the get-go.

Lichioiu opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a glancing header off an Edgar Soglo cross. The Romanian put it top left corner past goalkeeper Emanuelle Ameltonis to make it 1-0.

Pro soccer team one point up in CSL standings with three regular season games to go

Toronto, Ont. Friday, September 20th – Kingston FC moved slightly ahead in a two-­way race for first place in the CSL standings, drawing 1-­1 tonight with Serbian White Eagles.

With three games left in the regular season, Kingston has 44 total points – one more than York Region Shooters, who have a game in hand. Kingston and York Region will face each other twice in the season’s final weeks – matches that will essentially determine the regular season champ.

Kingston’s 2-0 victory over SC Waterloo clinches a home CSL playoff match on October 13th

Waterloo, Ont. Sunday, Sept. 15th, 2013 – Kingston FC overcame pouring rain and strong winds to defeat SC Waterloo 2-0 on the road at Warrior Field. The three points preserve Kingston’s lead atop the CSL table, clinching a top-four finish and home field advantage for the first round of the CSL playoffs.

Now only four regular season fixtures remain for Kingston. Tonight, fifth-place Waterloo SC didn’t make things easy for the visitors, despite the final score line.

Playoff ticket already booked as Kingston continues to build lead atop the CSL table

London, Ont. Friday, August 31st, 2013 – Thunder and lightning nearly postponed the match, but Kingston came away with three points last night in London. Guillaume Surot’s two goals led the visitors to a 3-1 win over London City United at the Hellenic Centre.

The victory gives Kingston 40 points atop the CSL table, with a six point cushion over Toronto Croatia and York Region Shooters before their weekend matches.

Surot opened the game’s scoring in the 10th minute of play. The league’s leading scorer connected on a Mike Smith free kick, hitting the crossbar and volleying home his own rebound from in close.

Local pro team claims 6-0 win at home, keeping them on top of the CSL table

Kingston, Ont. Sunday, August 25th, 2013 – The home team Kingston FC put on a clinic for the coaches in attendance on ‘Coach’s day’ at West Campus field. There were over 500 fans in attendance to witness a 6-0 thumping over North York’s Astros Vasas FC, pushing them once again back into first place.

The big guns came to play for Kingston, beginning with 32 year-old attacking midfielder Catalin Lichioiu. The Romanian placed a free kick close side – top left corner – past goalkeeper Laszio Barma for his 9th of the year in the 12th minute of play.

Pro soccer team defeats Niagara United 4-2 on the road, moves further into first place

Niagara, Ont. Saturday, August 17th, 2013 – Kingston FC rode Paul Kihara Waiganjo’s hat trick to a 4-2 road win over Niagara United on Saturday night.

The outside midfielder has been electric since returning from injury on July 20, netting five goals since – including three in Kingston’s latest victory, earning Man of the Match honours.

The win extended Kingston’s league-leading point total to 34. The club is mired in a four-team battle to top the Canadian Soccer League standings, with defending champion Toronto Croatia, Brampton City United and York Region Shooters all sitting within six points of each other.

Goalkeeper Jaroslav Tesar steps up in 4-2 victory at home over SC Waterloo

Kingston, Ont. Sunday, August 11th, 2013 – Kingston FC claimed another victory on home turf, moving the local pro soccer team to first place in the CSL First Division. With clear skies and 25 degrees Celcius temperature at West Campus field, Kingston defeated SC Waterloo 4-2 in front of 350 fans.

In their first CSL game since July 27th – a 2-0 victory in St. Catharines – the hosts Kingston finished off strong to claim their eighth victory of nine contests at home.
